Maybe I have no idea how the world of Microsoft works, but the solution to my "problem" from yesterday was "Yes". "Yes"? You say? To which question. It seems both. The interviews are to be held in the Dallas, TX area, while the job is for the Sammamish, WA area. Then why don't they just save their money and interview me here? Good question. I don't know. However if they want to pay me to go several thousand miles to interview for a position less than 3 miles from my home, and pay me for it, then I will not complain.
