Wonder and Welcome

I started in on G.K. Chesterton's book, "Orthodoxy" this morning after hearing John Piper say that it is among the handful of books he has read more than once. While making my way through the introduction he makes this statement, "What could be more delightful than to have in the same few minutes all the fascinating terrors of going abroad combined with all the humane security of coming home again?"

While this comment was aimed more at the things that motivate us as humans, i wonder if it's not in essence what Heaven will be. Both the "fantastical terror" of the unknown and yet a sense of coming home after a long trip. Of finally arriving. It is something I think we all crave, adventure, finding new things, to go where people haven't been and return home to tell of our adventures.

Perhaps heaven is at once an adventure and a return home.
