Prayer for the morning

Night-times aren't my best times. Because of this I sometimes wish I could sleep through the day and stay awake at night to deal with the strangeness's that my body chooses to become at night. (The problem with that is I woudn't get to see anyone!)

Last night Lisa and I were completely blessed by a visit from 2 of my co-workers who cleaned up and unpacked boxes. Our condo is starting to feel more permanent and homely again. If I'm not mistaken as well there are some more people coming tonight to finish up some other stuff and re-arrange some furniture. (We're adding another couch to the condo (it's a hide-a-bed, so now if someone wants to come and visit us they can actually spend the night!)) People delivering food, groceries, misc items, and helping hands has been a huge blessing to us. If you want to help, don't hesitate to ask!

This morning was the first time I actually got sick since chemo started. The strange part about it is that other from the cleanup that had to follow I think it was better for me than worse. Last Thursday when I had hiccups I burned something in my throat with the acid reflux and it has made swallowing water painful. Since getting sick this morning that is no longer a problem. (Praise God!) I also wasn't feeling like eating much but I've been snacking away since about 8am this morning. Blessings from the strangest places.

Some prayer items:
1. My appetite would return. I have lost probably about 10 pounds since this whole thing started and while I appreciate that, the Doctor's don't want me to loose any weight. I need to eat the things that my new diet has given me to eat, I need to eat a good amount of it, and I need to keep it down.
2. The Doctor's estimated hair loss would start around Friday. So far everything seems fine, but I would appreciate prayer for when that starts to happen.
3. Wisdom, strength and blessings on Lisa as she faithfully sticks by my side and helps me through all this. God has blessed me greatly with a wife like her. I hope I might someday, or some days, replay her. (Hopefully the rest of our lives!)
4. And finally I want to make the most out of the time I have with people when I see them. I need rest when I am alone and energy when God sends me people.

And of course pray for God's healing. He's the only way I'm going to get through this. (Spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically)

To God's glory! Amen.

  1. Ben,

I have started to write down the verses the Lord gives me on 3x5 cards. I'm really excited about this, as He's given me at least one verse a day. What I've come to realize is that the verses people tell me are great (Readers--please don't stop encouraging Ben with God's word!), but the ones He gives me are like jewels, as He knows exactly what my heart needs to feed on each day. Today was Psalm 62:8, "Trust in Him at all times, O people (O Jenifer, O Ben, O Lisa, O Paul, O etc.); Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us."

Anyway, I would encourage you to journal what the Lord gives you daily. I know of a friend who has gone through a very intense past two years and has journaled every verse from the Lord. What a testimony of God's care and provision in his life!

    Prayerfully,
    Mom

    Hi Ben,
I've started to add a comment on your blog two times prior to this but then changed my mind. I wanted to be so profound and spiritual but then what I said seemed trite and repetitive so I deleted it.
This time I will send this.

Just let me say what you must already know; that the McCurleys are all praying for you and Lisa (and your families)every day.
Thanks so much for recording your experiences and thoughts on this blog. It helps us focus on specific things to pray about; it helps us know how to help you.

Today I'm praying for strength for you to be able to go through what the Lord is allowing to happen in your life right now.

Psalm 68:35b - the God of Israel Himself gives strength and fullness of might to His people. Blessed be God!

    His blessings on you.

Ben, thanks for the specific prayer requests. Ed and I are praying faithfully for the big picture, but this helps us pray for your day to day as well. In him, Katie

    Hi, Ben.
Our dog barked me awake this morning at 3:45... God had sent a raccoon into the backyard. So I used that time to pray for you in the middle of the night - that you would be at peace, that you would be able to sleep, and that you would awake without anxiety. God bless.

  6. Ben, I just heard today about what has been happening. I am blown away and have joined the choir of prayers upward for you, Lisa, and your family and friends. I put your blog on my subscribe list and will be checking daily whenever you update us... I love what Manfred wrote and I am glad you highlighted that... We join with you friend... Psalm 116:7 Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.

    Take care,
    Steve and family
