I appreciate it when people come up to me and tell me, "Oh you look good!" Because it tells me that I don't look bad. I don't look like the image of the stereotypical cancer patient. Or they aren't coming up to me and saying something like, "Wow... you look like you've been worked over by a group of badgers." Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of looking like I've been "taken out back" by badgers.
Despite telling me I look good I guess I just don't know what that means. If I was to say that to someone I would either mean "You don't look dead!" or (a touch more sincerely) "Wow! Your health and wellness has progressed at a better state than I had been lead to believe. I am glad that you aren't one foot shy of the grave!" Which is what I think they mean when they say, "You look good".
To sum up for those of you who haven't seen me since doing any rounds of chemo know that people think I "look good". (My wife has been telling me this for ages, it's nice that other people are starting to agree...)

It's funny I wrote this blog entry this evening. Just after I wrote it Lisa and I went over to her folks place for a quick dinner and her uncle was there. He told me I was looking good. I was hoping my smiling wasn't too rude as I thought about this entry.

Hey Ben, Glad to hear that you're done with chemo for the week. Hope the rest of the weekend (and week) goes smoothly.
ReplyDelete...we don't need no stinking badgers.
ReplyDeleteI think I told you that you looked younger. I'm just so happy to see you as it means you're well enough to be out and about:-)
ReplyDeleteI know I was guilty of this, so i will just explain what it meant when i said it.
ReplyDeleteBen, you look healthier than I have seen you in a while, and that is encouraging.
;)
